I'm trying to improve my anatomy. Specially the torso region. Still a loooong way to go. About 40 minutes each. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

This one is not from a photo. I've just put something on my bed and tried to paint it. I have to do one of these per day!! I took three hours and a half to do this one. I can see some bits I could improve, but I'm really trying to stick to less than 3 hours. So what I get is what it stays. I hope I improve soon!! :S ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Back to copying from photos. There's two things that I really work on when I do these. First is my sense of values. And after that is my ability to match colours. On these two things (among others) I'm really simple. I have to keep doing these for a while. A third thing I want to get better is the attention to the details, but be honest I'm still really slow. It took me about a hour and a half for each of these.

Here's something I was trying to do that is obviously too elaborated for my level. I waste too much time when I should continue doing exercises. Particulary drawing. The only thing I'm going to try to do with colour in the next few weeks is just to observe and try to understand. So here it is. I did the values and then just put a colour layer on top. Couldn't be asked anymore because I'm trying to guess instead of trying to practice, so,... back to the exercises!

It doesn't look that great. Don't know what I was trying with this first one, but I was trying. :) The second one is just a late night sketch. Took me about an hour and a half (which for me is awesome :D) I'm just trying to catch on. After some weeks of not painting much, everything seems even more difficult :P ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A friend showed me a process he's been using to get some faces done. Of course the ones he does look much better than the ones below. I'm trying to get more familiar with the process so then I can try to apply to some of my stuff. These aren't supposed to be more than half an hour.

Here's my new way of working. From now on, when I do 2 hours of copying anatomy, I'll do right after an hour of anatomy from my own head. And I'll try to do it for other exercises too. So these are the first I came up with. I still have a lot to learn about the torso. BRING IT ON!!!
I'm back. And I do hope that I don't have to stop again. Here's some stuff that I've been copying from an Anatomy book (I always forget the name). Anyway, yeah, I have to work big time on anatomy. I was trying to learn about women but quickly I saw that I don't even know the basics for anatomy. So this is the start. I'm going to copy this book from cover to cover. Some people say it's worth it, some people say it isn't, and some people (like me) don't really care about what some people have to say. NOT YOU BEN!! To me you're like Cassiopeia pointing the North direction at night :) It's always good to have your feedback. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

These are bits of the latest storyboard I've been working on. I still have to finish it. It's for a grad film and for the first time I was happy with the process that I used to mix the pencil with the digital media. I still don't like the layout but I don't know if that's because I'm a huge comic book fan. Anyway, I really need to improve the next storyboard I do and not only the drawings, so any feedback it's more than welcome :) ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
This is a bit of something I did for a short commercial that was going to enter in a competition, also through the AUCB. I have to find a way of getting rid of all the dark areas of the paper. I like the texture feeling of it but it looks too dirty. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I can’t seem to find time for painting because of the storyboards. So, I’ll put here some of the stuff I’ve been doing lately. This is a storyboard that I have drawn last year for a grad film in the AUCB. Only now I have been trying to change it a bit in order to give it a more finished look. I think it will stay like this. It’s not that great I think. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Monday 1 March 2010

Here are some more exercises that I've been doing. Hands! Can’t seem to be enough ever. They're really good to get me into this habit of sketching everyday more and faster. Women! I'm always disappointed with what I do when I try to draw a woman body, and it's been like this for a long time. So I guess I decided 'no more!’ I'm going to try to practice women anatomy the next weeks. These are copied from photos, and like with the hands, I'm going to try to put in practice what I learn with this exercises. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
